WHAT'S THE LATEST NEWS
APRIL IS PARKINSON'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH!
Plan on celebrating with us. We are having several cities in the state sign proclamations stating that April is Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month. Look for notices in the papers. We are starting the month with a Silent Auction fundraiser for the Arkansas Chapter on April 6, during Gallery Walk in Hot Springs. The Silent Auction will take place from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at The Regency Banquet Room, 714 Central Ave., Hot Springs. We will have pieces of art, hotel packages, tickets to local attractions among the items you will be able to bid on.
We would like to thank our sponsors for this event -- St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs, and The Regency Banquet Center.
To end the Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month, plan on attending the educational seminar on Friday, April 27 at St. Joseph's Mercy Medical Center, in Hot Springs. To see a list of the speaker and the schedule, go to the registration form; while you're there, fill it out and send it in to assure a seat at the seminar.
During the month of April, make sure you get to a support group meeting in your area. You can learn more about the disease, hear what others are doing, share ideas, etc. at a support group meeitng. You just might learn a trick or two to make life easier.
If your traveling, espcially flying, and have been questioned about your condition, while going through security, there are now identification cards that the Transportation Security Administration acknowledges that includes Parkinson Disease. OUR MISSION
The Arkansas Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association is here to EDUCATE and ASSIST those in the state with Parkinson Disease. The APDA's motto of "To ease the burden and find a cure" is evident in the Arkansas Chapter's activities.
To that end, we sponsor and support 23 Support Groups throughout the state, and conduct 2 all day seminars each year, as well as in-service training for professionals.
This web site is to help those who are newly diagnosed find a local support group and more information on PD and the resources available to them. For those who already belong to a support group, hopefully this web site will help you stay better connected, know what's going on in our state, and learn new things about Parkinson Disease.
Visit your local support group. No group meets in your area? Contact us on how to start one. They're a great way to learn about the disease and how to manage it, and discuss what you've learned with others.
